Classic eyelash extensions are generally extremely safe, just as long as they’re applied correctly using the appropriate thickness of extension.
What Constitutes Proper Application?
Proper application of classic lashes involves isolating each natural eyelash before attaching an extension. Since every eyelash is continuously growing, failing to properly isolate lashes can cause permanent damage to the follicles, and it can be super painful for your client if they have stickies due to you not isolating properly!
The amount of lash glue used is also critical. Using too much glue can lead to stickies within your set. If you notice excessive glue on an extension, gently dip it back into the glue drop and remove it slowly. If the glue becomes stringy, it’s time for a fresh drop.
If you find that you have to hold the lash extension for a prolonged time or you’re dealing with lots of stickies at the end of the lash treatment, it might indicate the need for a quicker-drying glue. However, always check the humidity levels of your lash studio first, as adjusting this is often a simple solution.
Choosing the Right Lashes for Classic Lash Extensions
When selecting the thickness for your Classic lash extension sets, consider your client's individual needs. Here’s a breakdown of the thicknesses available and their ideal uses:
0.10 Thickness: Offers a very natural look, safe for all clients as it doesn’t weigh down the lashes. This thickness is versatile enough for both Hybrid and Classic extensions as these lashes can also be used for 2D volume lash fans.
0.12 & 0.15 Thickness: These provide a mascara-like effect, adding volume without appearing overly dramatic. They’re suitable for most clients. However, for clients with fine hair from treatments like chemotherapy, who might have weaker roots, proceed with caution.
0.18 Thickness: This is the maximum thickness recommended for maintaining lash health and ensuring lash safety. While eyelash extensions initially included options as thick as 0.30, such heavy lashes are now not advisable for long-term lash health.
0.20 & 0.25 Thickness: These are available for Classic lashes but should only be used on clients with exceptionally thick and strong natural lashes to avoid damage. Opting for these thicknesses in flat lashes is preferable, as they provide the drama but are about half the weight of a regular classic lash!
